Using the site
Numerus is a free Roman numeral converter and reference: the two-way converter, per-number and per-year pages, charts, the date generator, the rules guide, the printable chart, the embeddable widget and the JSON API. You can use all of it without creating an account.
No warranty
The site is provided as is and as available, with no warranty of any kind. Conversions follow the standard rules of the Roman numeral system and are checked carefully, but we do not guarantee the site will be error free, uninterrupted, or fit for any particular purpose. Do not rely on it for anything where an error could cause serious harm, such as legal, medical or financial decisions, without independent verification.
Acceptable use
Use the site for lawful purposes only. Do not attempt to disrupt the site, scrape it at a rate that degrades it for others, circumvent rate limits on the JSON API, or use it to build a service that misrepresents itself as Numerus.
The embeddable widget and the API
The embeddable widgetis free to use on your own site provided the "Powered by Numerus" credit and link stay visible; that credit is what keeps the widget free. The JSON API is free for reasonable, non-abusive use. We may change, rate limit, or discontinue either with notice on the relevant page if it ever becomes necessary.
Third-party links and advertising
Some pages link to third-party sites, such as our web host's policies. Numerusmay also show ads served by third-party advertising networks to help keep the site free; those networks operate under their own terms and privacy policies, not ours. See the privacy page for details on cookies, consent, and advertising.
Intellectual property
The Numerus name, design and original written content belong to Numerus. Roman numerals themselves are a public, centuries-old numbering system and are not owned by anyone. You are welcome to link to any page on the site.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the site grows, for example when advertising is switched on. The date of the most recent meaningful change will be reflected in the content of this page. Continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised terms.
